A Book Against A Book (Open Post)

I labelled this as "Open Post" because I will still be updating this post as I go through the book.

I'm currently reading Sam Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation. It's a (atheist) book full of arguments against Christian claims. This post will just be like a notepad of points that really hit me. Of course you can read the book yourself for complete information.

1. Deuteronomy 13:6, 8-15.
"[On non-believers] But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die."

Seriously?! That is just SICK. Is that what your god teaches you?!?! Kill people?!

2. Leviticus 25:44-46.
"Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids."

Bondmen/bondmaids, by the way, are SLAVES. So yea, your book is pro-slavery.

3. Christians crusade against HPV vaccine. (Source)
The human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine prevents infection with certain species of human papillomavirus associated with the development of cervical cancer, genital warts, and some less common cancers.

And Christian groups are against it because they "want sex to remain as scary as possible". That's dumb. So you'd rather let your wives and daughters die of cancer?! The HPV vaccine doesn't encourage people to have sex, hormones do. Crusade against that.

4. Deuteronomy 22:13-21
"But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die."

Wow, good luck getting married ladies.

  1. Wow. seriously. What you're reading right now, (Deut and Lev.) are from the old testament and u're already reacting? Those are the first 2 books (and there 66 all in all), u don't even know how it ends, do u? I think you're one of those people who react more than thinking (or react first than knowing the story). Did you even finish reading the bible? It's bad habit to read book reviews, without reading the actual book. =) oh and that's why Jesus died on the Cross, so you can be forgiven too.

  2. Hi Anonymous, thank you for your opinion on this post. You're right, I haven't read the whole bible, I don't think I even have the guts to read such a book. But as far as what these verses "teach", I'm glad I didn't read it at all. :)

  3. Umaayon ka po ba kay Sam Harris o hindi?... Ako po kasi naguguluhan din kung I'll believe or not... Actually, I wanna read such kind of books or yong mga books na nagbibigay ng answers sa kin...

Can I ask po if san kayo nakabili ng book na yan?

  5. Would you seek for truth?
Religion is a bunch of rules of do's and don'ts...
miss ABby, in my point of view... Old testament books are pictures of how sin was dealt simply because GOD is holy & MAN is not... BUT as we transition to NEW TESTAMENT it tells us how redemption was shown by GOD to man (John 3:16)... Im not a pastor btw, Im Kiel Lorrence a mere man who responded to HIS salvation not out of compulsion but of decision.
ITS NOT ABOUT RELIGION, ITS ABOUT RELATIONSHIP.

Reading the Bible && Jesus apart from HIS PERSONALITY is like watching a TV with its sound turned-off. ^^

  6. Hi there,

Maybe we shouldn't speak of what we do not know, because it's doing so that makes us come off sounding ignorant. Although you are very fervent and strong in your convictions (which I commend you for), they are flawed.

I suggest you read the Bible (you may start in the New Testament to better understand the Old Testament; you'll get what I mean) just so that you understand what you stand so strongly against. It is never wise to make a decision without being fully informed.

Our lives are too short to waste making regrettable choices. So if you read the Bible, and still decide to deny God's existence, at least you made a judgment call based on firsthand information.

    Much love. :)

  7. Hi Abby, I respect your opinion and as a believer who received unmerited favor from God, I am speaking to you right now through this post. It is good that you have a clever mind, much good that you can use that to understand the bible itself. I hope you can spend time reading the bible and understanding the TRUTH against flawed critical thinking of man. I don't believe there are atheist - they are just "people ANGRY at God". At the end of this life, if you will not read the bible and not believe on Jesus Christ, you may loose the privilege of living in perfect peace - even in this imperfect world, and the chance of experiencing God's wonderful love through Jesus Christ. :) You will loose nothing, i am challenging you, give it a try. If this life ends without allowing yourself to know what I am talking about and you've proven me correct, you've lost everything, including your life.
